Farm Description

The name Kaku comes from the Lahu (ethnic minority in the region) language. Kaku farm is on one of the highest mountains in Menglian from which you can see the beautiful valleys of both Southern China and Myanmar. At Kaku, only washed coffee is produced. At this well managed farm, everybody strives for excellence under the experienced guidance of Mr. Zhang. This combined with the high altitude produces an exceptionally high quality coffee that is not only very clean, but also about as complex as you would ever be able to find in this area of the world. Farm Description

Dongka derives it's name from the Lahu villages around the farm. In the late 80's Mr. Zha's father united the people from these villages and started growing coffee together to alleviate the bitter poverty in the region. He became the spokesman of his people and achieved prosperity and stability for them.

Now his son (Mr. Zha) has taken over and we have worked with him for quite a few years now. We have helped with training in growing and processing. We witnessed the coffee quality improve over the years and are thankful to be part of that journey.

Farm Description

This washing station derives its name from the close by village of Banka in the mountains of Menglian, Yunnan, not far from the border with Myanmar. Banka produces washed coffee and two naturals from different plots of land: Banka and Aqi Badu. It is owned and operated by Yunnan Coffee Traders in the skillful hands of wet mill manager Mr. Chen.

Guiben is located near the Lao border in a famous tea growing area. One of the partners in YCT Lan Tiancai is the co-owner of the farm with his cousin. YCT has been instrumental in setting up the entire operation.

The vision for this farm has always been to produce high quality specialty coffee organically and sustainably. The farm has proven social impact on the community providing employment and training as an alternative to heavy drinking and hopelessness.

Apart from coffee, the farm produces avocados and mangoes. In addition, experiments are undertaken with alternative varieties to Catimor: Geisha, Yellow Bourbon, Pacamara etc. The name Guiben is Chinese and means 'to return to origin' or to 'return home'. The aligns with not just the vision, but also the practical applications in daily farm operations: soil regeneration, bio-diversity and good local relationships!

Baima farm is named after a beautiful egg-shaped mountain prominently visible from the washing station and is the most recent addition to our list of producing partners. Mr. Dong (or uncle Dong as we usually call him) has seen it all in the coffee industry and loves producing coffee that he loves. All coffee is produced to order: washed, honey and naturals.
